Heroes are true leaders. They lead by fairness, faith, and patience.

Sister Jean Smith has long been a Notre Dame fixture. Although this is her first year back after a brief hiatus, Sister is right back in the swing of things at Notre Dame. She made an incredible host of the Notre Dame presidential debate with her wit and demure elocution. With a loving and nurturing voice, Sister Jean uses her vast experience and knowledge to truly reach the heart of all of her students. It is her effervescent demeanor and grateful heart that makes her an incredible Notre Dame Hero.

Notre Dame Heroes #28

Heroes are brazen and bold. They are confident and wake up each morning knowing that they can reach any goal they put to mind.

Meredith Pace is an exceptional teacher who has stepped up to take on new tasks this year. Her adaptability has made her a treasured asset of the vocational team. She is generous and giving to all of her fellow staff and students. Her joy and passion for her work is infectious. Meredith loves to brighten everyone’s day with a random act of baked good kindness. With her agreeable spirit, Meredith is the true reflection of a Notre Dame Hero.

Heroes are fun-loving and carefree. They are level-headed and easy-going.

Josh Fernandez has truly excelled since taking over the Daily Living Skills class in Intermediate. His personality is a perfect fit for his students who love and adore him. Josh is always ready with a positive word or comment and loves to heap praise onto his exceptional students. He is full of creative ideas that keep classwork fun and exciting. Students cannot wait for daily living skills and they are passionate for cooking days. It is Josh’s positive energy and well-executed classes that make him an excellent Notre Dame Hero.

Notre Dame Heroes #26

Heroes are larger than life. They are full of energy and life, always ready with a smile.

Our school secretary, Francine Kruzitski is the face of the Notre Dame School of Dallas. She serves as a greeter, filer, copier, organizer, nurse, personal assistant to the principal, among many more myriad functions. Her calm demeanor and sensitivity to each and every matter keeps the school organized and functioning at its best. She is knowledgeable and the “go to” person for any special school functions.

In her ten years at Notre Dame, she has worked tirelessly to help our students in every possible way. Working at Notre Dame- a school catering exclusively to students with special needs, Francine has show a true heart for our student population. She is kind and caring to their needs and does a tremendous job of keeping track of their individual necessities.

Besides being the face of the school, she is also the voice. Ms. Francine’s announcements are precise and clear, always accompanied by her sensitive “excuse me staff.” In recent years, it has become a project of hers to work with DART in allowing our students to gain independence by riding on DART transportation to and from school. She has worked extensively with DART to help the program run smoothly and better serve our students and parents.

It is through her hard work, her dedication to the students and staff, and her incredible heart that Francine makes Francine an authentic Notre Dame Hero.

Notre Dame Heroes #25

Heroes are artistic. They can guide an idea from its beginning all the way to completion.

Hope Whitaker has become a beloved teacher in the intermediate department. Her incredible artistic gifts are always on display in the Notre Dame Halls on billboards, doors, and banners. Her calm, fair but firm demeanor has helped Intermediate students develop a sense of discipline while still having fun learning with love. She is patient, yet willing to speak out for what she thinks is right. Hope has devoted herself to helping the students at the Notre Dame School and that makes her a real Notre Dame Hero.

Heroes are knowledgeable and humble. They learn from their mistakes and strive to not to make them anymore.

Rosie Criswell is the sage of the Notre Dame stage. She is an incredible reading teacher, using her years of experience to create an atmosphere of learning and growth. Yet it is not only her vast wisdom that makes Rosie a Notre Dame Hero. She is kind, giving, and beyond generous. She loves to work and nurture those around her- both staff and students. Rosie knows her students interests and uses that information to help them reach their true potential. Rosie’s expertise and character make her a true Notre Dame Hero.
